RPM Attachment points explained by Sam Light

RPM Attachment points explained by Sam Light. Ever wondered what your kite’s different attachment points are for?

Sam Light discusses RPM kite tuning techniques and why you should try for yourself.

If you rig your kite the same way every session and have never experimented with different settings and attachment points, you could be missing out. Slingshot kites come equipped with different attachment points, on both the leading edge and the wingtip. These attachment points are a huge bonus, as they give you the ability to customize the way your kite feels and performances.

If you have never experimented with these settings, it’s well worth giving it a try. Even if you decide you like it best the way you’ve always rigged it, you’ll be a better kiter when you understand how and why your kite performs differently with each setting.

Here’s Sam Light to explain the basics. In these videos, he talks specifically about his go-to kite, the RPM. Although they’ll differ a little, the concepts he discusses translate to any other kite in the Slingshot line.

Summary- Wing tip attachment points:

  • Adjusting will affect steering speed and bar pressure of the kite.
  • The go-to, stock setting is on the trailing edge of the wingtip. The kite will have less bar pressure and faster-turning speed. This is best for jumping, kite loops, or performance-oriented kiting. Sam always uses this for larger kites since generally, you want larger kites to steer faster.
  • The farther you move attachment point toward the middle of the kite, the slower steering speed, and more bar pressure. This is good if you want to slow down the kite for any reason, for example learning board starts, unhooking on smaller sizes just generally want to slow the kite down. The kite will be slower and less responsive, but also more bar pressure.
