Slingshot RPM Freestyle vs. Wakestyle Setting | 2018

If you rig your kite the same way every session and have never experimented with different settings and attachment points, you could be missing out. Slingshot kites come equipped with different attachment points, on both the leading edge and the wingtip. These attachment points are a huge bonus, as they give you the ability to customize the way your kite feels and performances.

If you have never experimented with these settings, it’s well worth giving it a try. Even if you decide you like it best the way you’ve always rigged it, you’ll be a better kiter when you understand how and why your kite performs differently with each setting.

Here’s Sam Light to explain the basics. In these videos, he talks specifically about his go-to kite, the RPM. Although they’ll differ a little, the concepts he discusses translate to any other kite in the Slingshot line.

In this kite tuning video, Sam Light talks about Freestyle vs Wakestyle settings on your Slingshot kite.

 Summary- Leading edge attachment points:

  • Stock (freestyle) setting is the best all-around setting, the kite is the most efficient, fastest, least bar pressure and most depower. The most performance-oriented position, best for jumping, freestyle, and general freeride. Also use for larger kites because you want them to fly faster, more efficient.
  • The wakestyle setting, the kite will sit farther back in the window, more bar pressure, less responsive, slower turning speed. Feels more grunty. Great for beginners who want to slow the kite down or for unhooked wakestyle, especially for smaller kites that you want to slow down.
